Find Your IP Address and Router IP on iPhone

Your iPhone's Wi-Fi details describe its connection to the local network. The address visible to a website can instead belong to a router, mobile carrier, VPN or supported privacy relay. Check the connection you are currently using.

Find the address for your Wi-Fi network

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi and confirm the intended network is connected.
  2. Tap the information button next to that network.
  3. In the IPv4 details, read IP Address, Subnet Mask and Router. These are different fields: the router is the next hop, not the phone's own local IP.
  4. If the device exposes IPv6 details, keep those separate from the IPv4 result. Read the settings without changing Configure IP.

Read the local address and router separately

An IP Address of 192.168.1.42 and Router of 192.168.1.1 is a typical example of a phone and router on a private IPv4 LAN. A website usually sees the connection's public exit address instead.

Your device's address is used on a selected interface. The default gateway or Router field identifies a next hop. To find the router's WAN address, open its own Internet/status page using the manufacturer's instructions. This website cannot read your router settings automatically.

Find the public address websites see

Open the public IP checker on the same device and connection. The result is the address used for that web request. With IPv4, several devices may share an exit address; with IPv6, a device can have its own global address. Compare the same version and record results at the same time.

Common reasons the values differ

The Private Wi-Fi Address setting concerns a MAC address used on that Wi-Fi network. It is not the public internet IP and is not the same as a private IPv4 address. Avoid comparing a MAC address with a web IP result.

The Wi-Fi details do not describe cellular routing. To check the public address over mobile data, use the website while the phone is actually using cellular data. Switching networks can change addresses and may use your data allowance.

A VPN or a privacy relay used for compatible browsing can alter the public result. Record which services are enabled when comparing results; an address change alone does not test the protection of every app.
